Cheerful Checkered Kitchen
Maple Leaf, Seattle
Once defined by a narrow passage between the dining room and kitchen, this space was thoughtfully reimagined to create a more open, connected layout. Expanding the opening to twice its original width improved the flow between the two rooms. To further optimize the design, a seldom-used breakfast nook was transformed into a multifunctional space incorporating a pantry, coffee bar, and dedicated workstation—designed to support the family's energetic daily rhythm.
While the footprint has evolved, the home’s soulful heritage remains front and center. Signature elements from the original kitchen, including vibrant pops of green and classic black-and-white checkerboard flooring, were intentionally selected to maintain its historic character. The kitchen is enriched by thoughtful detailing, particularly where the elegant quartzite trim meets the intricate pattern of the hand-painted tile. Above the sink, a delicate glass pendant casts a warm amber glow—a tribute to the kitchen's role as the true heart of the home.
